As Jesus with the disciples of Emmaus, so the Church must become the traveling companion of young people…
– Pope John Paul II

A warm welcome to the Youth Ministry pages!  Through trust in Divine Providence, we’ve grown and taken root in the parish.  It’s our desire to use this website to share our faith with you through tidbits from our different activities and information on young saints. God Bless you and please visit us often!

Youth Ministry fosters the personal and spiritual growth of youth in Grades 5-12 through fun-filled, interactive activities and catechesis, leading them to a deeper relationship with Christ. Our program serving middle in Gr 5-7 is EDGE, and our high school youth program for youth in Gr 8-12 is YDisciple (formerly known as Life Teen).

The EDGE for grades 5-7

EDGE meets every Friday from 7:30-9:30pm during the school year in the JP2 room in the school building.  For the 2020-2021 school year, due to the coronavirus pandemic concerns we are meeting online on Zoom Fridays between 8-9pm.

WHY YOUTH LOVE EDGE

  • It’s a fun, safe place to spend time with their Catholic friends.
  • They get answers to their unanswered questions about their Catholic faith.
  • They experience Jesus Christ in a profound, personal way.
  • They feel like they are important to everyone else in the parish.

WHY PARENTS LOVE EDGE

  • EDGE gives middle schoolers a chance to build strong Catholic friendships before they enter high school.
  • They are given talking points via email after every EDGE night. Now parents can take the EDGE Night further during conversations on the drive home.
  • Their children are given Catholic role models on the Core Team who reinforce what is already being taught within the home.
  • EDGE understands the physical, psychological, cognitive, relational, and spiritual maturation of middle school youth.

Fall 2020 semester theme: Iconic – A series answering the big questions about Jesus.  Jesus is the most influential person who has ever lived, yet many middle school youth do not understand who He is, if He is still relevant to their lives, or why they should care about Him. This semester we dive into big questions about Jesus that not only reveal Him as truly God and truly man but also help the youth to identify Jesus’ love in their everyday lives.

Here is a recap videos from past years.

YDisciple for grades 8-12

YDisciple is not running during for the 2020-2021 school year.  Our high school teens are currently helping lead the EDGE program for the younger youth.

YDisciple meets on Friday nights, 7:30-9:30pm during the school year in the JP2 Room in the school building (we usually break off to Room 110 after the opening section).

The mission of YDisciple ministry is to help teens fall deeply in love with Jesus in the Eucharist.  We organize multiple events during the year, such as justice and service projects, retreats, outings, camping trips and bible study. We want to provide teenagers healthy spiritual and recreational activities during their secondary school years that will not only strengthen their bonds with each other, but strengthen their relationship with God as well.

In the Fall 2017 semester, we went through the “Follow Me” series on being a disciple of Christ. If you are interested in re-watching any of these episodes, you can do so through the Formed service which the parish has purchased for all parishioners. (Formed is a Netflix-like service with Catholic movies, documentaries, and videos for all ages.  Free access is available for all parishioners and school parents: contact us, or see the PLC info center if you need the registration code)

For the Spring 2018 semester, we went through the newly revamped Youth Alpha series.  We first ran the original series in 2014 with very positive feedback from the youth, so we are looking forward to running it again this term.  The Youth Alpha topics revolve around the basics of the Christian faith.  It is designed to spark conversations about life, faith and God in a friendly, open and informal environment.
